Project Description

FEAST is a hybrid of performance and architectural installation exploring the origin of desire through Plato's Symposium. A collage of scenes and variations evolving over three hours, FEAST was presented in an abandoned stable building located in the heart of DUMBO Brooklyn, one of the emerging vital arts communities in New York.

The central feature of FEAST was a large architectural structure that resembles the building's own dramatic pitched roof and was constructed in the open 5,000 sq ft gallery space. The characters and dramatic structure were based on the Symposium. Audience could circulate freely through the gallery space and watch shifting dynamics of performers, light and sound through eight cut-out windows in the imposing roof structure. The performers appeared and disappeared in eight distinct interior rooms.

FEAST exemplified Julia Mandle’s interdisciplinary approach, bringing together the talents of a choreographer Beppie Blankert, a composer Paul Geluso, and a lighting designer Aaron Cop on the creative team.
