Project Description
RETURN is a large-scale production developing the group's exploration of both spatial and conceptual themes through the company's trademark costume-defined-choreography.
RETURN explores the concept of time and how simple choices resonate through the rest of people's lives. The performance is inspired by the story of a lost WWII air force navigator who now finds himself stranded in the present. He travels through the distressed landscapes of his mind, as the audience follows along with him from one performance space to the next. For the first time, this site-specific company will perform indoors, creating several performance installations with innovative costumes, movement, and sound design within the project space of GAle GAtes' 40,000 sq.ft. finished industrial warehouse.
RETURN was first developed during Fall 2000 and presented as a work in progress during JMP's July 2001 outdoor benefit event FIRE ESCAPE 4 at the Old American Can Factory with aerial works by three dancers from the popular De La Guarda show. After making its premiere at GAle Gates et al. in December, RETURN was adapted for two short excerpt performances at BAX/Brooklyn Arts Exchange on January 4-5, 2002.
