Project Description

How can elements of hopscotch be used as aesthetic tools to create cultural impact?  This question shaped Mandle’s upcoming project HOPSCOTCH,premiering at The Drawing Center’s The Big Draw event. Using her signature Chalk Shoes used in Chalk Shoes to the High Line, Hustle, and Kalch, Mandle will engage the public in a large-scale, outdoor game and collaborative drawing.  Looking to the French iteration of hopscotch, Escargot, performers will create overlapping spirals to play the game upon.  Employing the vocabulary of Hopscotch, the drawing intends to allow for a meditation on notions of “safety” and “home.”

HOPSCOTCH will also be performed in Philadelphia in the spring of 2009 in the Hidden City festival.  Please check back for more information.
